When does it hit you during the day? You know, “it,” that feeling in your stomach that nags at you. A feeling that says life is passing you by. There has to be something more, right?
“Life is short. You only get one.” We utter those phrases regularly. They are tag lines we add to Twitter messages, photos on Facebook, and words of encouragement we provide to friends who are questioning a potential life change. However, when it comes to ourselves, those words are scary. You want to do something different, be something different, change careers, get that promotion, be a better leader, give your life a true purpose. But how do we do it?
You have to take the first step. But let’s not pretend that the first step is easy. Because that first step means you have to admit out loud, to yourself and to others, that the feeling/voice/thought is right. You can’t and won’t ignore it anymore. You aren’t reaching your full potential. You aren’t living your life accomplishing your purpose. You can deliver and contribute so much more than what you delivering are right now. You owe it to yourself to acknowledge it. Speak it out loud. Say it, “I can be so much more! What am I waiting for?”
After taking the first step of acknowledgement, keep going. The next step is to find people who will hold you accountable to the path you want to pursue. Be it a friend, a partner, a peer, or even a life coach. Changes are hard. Don’t think that you have to do it alone. It’s always better when you have someone who supports your efforts, so ensure you have someone to help you on your path, encouraging you along the way.
My challenge to you is to be brave. Take the steps you need to take in order to truly live. Say it out loud, acknowledge the voice, and get started. Then find someone who will stand beside you while you do it.
The world is waiting for you to be who you were meant to be and give what only you can give. Stop waiting for permission.
